What scholarships are offered in AFROTC?

Whether you are an incoming freshman, enlisted airman, or a current college student, there are plenty of scholarship opportunities available to you. Below are just some of the opportunities available to cadets in our program. Additional information and requirements about scholarships may be found here.

High School Scholarship Program (HSSP)

Type 1 - The HSSP must be completed during the cycle for the academic year in which they intend to enroll in college and begin the Air Force ROTC program. This scholarship pays full (100 percent) college tuition and authoritized fees at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. Comes with an annual book stipend that is $900 per academic year and a monthly stipend that increases based on an individual's student status.

In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP)

The ICSP is eligible for freshman and sophomore college students during two selection phases (Fall and Spring semesters). This scholarship is awarded based on merit (GPA, Health Assessment score, commander's ranking).  

Type 1 - Pays full (100 percent) college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. Selectees also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend. The Type 1 in-college scholarship is only offered to students persuing a technical major.  

Type 2 - Pays up to $18,000 per year in college tuition at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. Selectees will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend. 

Type 7 - Pays full (100 percent) college tuition and authorized fees at a public institution that has an Air Force ROTC detachment and the cadet qualifies for in-state tuition. Cadets on this scholarship will recieve a monthly stipend as well as a $900 book stipend. This scholarship has the option to be converted into a three-year Type 2 scholarship.

General Charles McGee Leadership Award - After you receive an enrollment allocation, complete Field Training, and are not already on scholarship, you will receive the General Charles McGee Leadership Award. It pays $18,000 per year for two years towards tuition and cannot be applied to graduate students. 

Housing benefit: Any scholarship awardee will be allowed to convert their award into a housing benefit up to $10K-per-academic-year "housing scholarship" used for on-campus housing.

UNM Housing Scholarship

Selectees are awarded a semester scholarship that helps cover housing and or meal plan fees. Every semester there is an application process in which selected individuals are given upwards of $2,250 to help offset living costs on campus.
