"To recruit, develop, train, and commission premier Air Force officers through our tradition of excellence"
At Detachment 510, we have successfully commissioned over 1,000 2Lts into the United States Air Force since 1949. Among these, we have commissioned 10 cadets that have become Generals in our Air Force. Lieutenant General Edward L. Tixier (pronounced "T-C-A") was born in 1929, in Clayton, NM and graduated from Albuquerque HS in 1947. He Attended UNM for one year then continued to the US Military Academy from 1948 to 1951; afterwards, completing his studies at UNM with a bachelors in Geology. General Tixer was commander, U.S. Forces, Japan, and 5th Air Force, with HQ at Yokota Air Base, Japan before his retirement on February 1, 1988. In this complex and rapidly evolving world the Air Force needs dedicated and professional leaders. Detachment 510 is located here to provide these leaders to the US Air Force. These men and women will have the opportunity to command and control assets in air, space, and the ever evolving cyberspace of today's military. Our job is to prepare college students to meet the challenges of officership and instill the pride and traditions that have upheld our Air Force since creation on September 18, 1947.
