Scholarship Funds

Air Force ROTC has several opportunities to earn scholarships so that Cadets can focus on school, rather than paying for it. Many of our Cadets are first-generation college students, with several having to take one or more jobs to pay for school, while also completing the ROTC program. The two scholarships below are reliant on your donations and will go directly to Cadets to assist with funding their degrees.

Judy Ortiz-Aragon Dark Horse Scholarship

Behind-the-scenes workers often go unnoticed – people who put in 100% effort, butaren’t in the spotlight. These individuals are essential to an organization’s success. They are motivated, dedicated, and often overlooked. The Judy Ortiz-Aragon Dark Horse Scholarship seeks to reward the underdogs, who work tirelessly to support their mission outside of the limelight. The recipient of this scholarship is peer-nominated.

Pvt. James W. Whalen Memorial ROTC

The Pvt. James W. Whalen Memorial ROTC scholarship seeks to assist those high-performing Cadets who experience financial hardship. A lack of funds to attend school shouldn’tpreclude motivated and dedicated students and Cadets from obtaining their degrees and pursuing their goals to become officers in the world’s greatest Air Force. This scholarship is an immediate relief for high-performing Cadets in tight financial situations, and the fund is distributed at the discretion of the UNM AFROTC Detachment Commander.
